Microsoft unveiled Surface Laptop Ultra and Surface RTX Spark Dev Box pricing, alongside Windows 11 features designed to support locally run AI models and agents.
Microsoft announced pricing for two Surface devices built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip at an event in San Francisco on October 7, 2026. The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,600 for its base configuration; a version with a more powerful chip starts at $3,700. Optional memory and storage upgrades can bring the price to $5,900, and Microsoft said its highest-end configuration was already out of stock at the time of the announcement.
The second system, the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, is a workstation starting at $6,000. It comes with developer tools including VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, WSL and PowerShell 7. Microsoft positions both machines for running AI models directly on the device, using their CPU, GPU, unified memory and other hardware provisions, including enhanced cooling.
The launch also brings a revised Windows 11 feature called Execution Containers. Microsoft says the feature helps isolate AI agents in a sandbox, and CEO Satya Nadella said it would be available to all Windows 11 users. The company described the broader Windows platform direction as supporting agents from Microsoft and other app makers, with orchestration, context and memory among the capabilities involved.
Microsoft is directing the new systems toward developers, offering up to $1,000 off for customers trading in a MacBook Pro. The hardware is also presented as suitable for content creation, video processing and gaming. The announcement follows Nvidia’s June disclosure of agreements with Microsoft and other PC makers to develop Windows machines based on RTX Spark for AI and agent workloads.
Microsoft was not the only manufacturer to detail an RTX Spark PC that day. Dell announced that its XPS 16 Creator Edition was available for preorder at Best Buy for $3,800, with delivery planned for later in October.
