Nvidia has made DLSS 5 visual changes subtler and says an October update will improve performance before the technology reaches more games.
Nvidia’s DLSS 5 neural-rendering technology is set to arrive in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, with newly shared comparison images showing less pronounced changes to characters and environments than earlier demonstrations. The update follows criticism of the technology’s initial look, particularly its effect on character faces.
Nvidia has said game developers have detailed artistic control over DLSS 5 and decide how to use it in their games. The revised comparisons suggest that its implementation can be adjusted to preserve a game’s existing visual style, although the article does not describe a specific control or setting for doing so.
Nvidia also announced an October update to the neural-rendering system. The company says it should make DLSS 5 twice as fast on RTX 50-series GPUs and upcoming RTX Spark laptops. According to Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes, the update reduces the model’s footprint by 24 percent, to roughly 118 million parameters, and cuts its 4K video memory usage by 20 percent. The updated model is due to appear first in NBA 2K27 on October 16 and is expected to ship by default with future DLSS 5 games.
A separate Nvidia app beta update adds a performance mode for Frame Generation on RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs. Nvidia says the mode can improve performance by up to 35 percent, with minor image-quality trade-offs. It applies to Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.
DLSS 5 is also scheduled to come to Where Winds Meet late next month. The November Hogwarts Legacy release will provide an early look at the revised technology in a game beyond Nvidia’s initial demonstrations.
