The meeting AI company plans to use $320 million from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund for enterprise growth, international expansion and product development.
Otter.ai announced on October 20 that it had secured $320 million in growth financing from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund. The fund provides capital without taking equity, with returns tied to marketing outcomes, according to TechCrunch. Otter said it will put the financing toward enterprise growth, go-to-market efforts, international expansion and product development.
The company reported that 40 million people have used its meeting assistant, up from 25 million the previous year. Otter also crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue last year, but did not disclose a newer revenue figure or provide monthly active-user and customer-retention numbers. In its announcement, the company said its tools have been used to transcribe more than one billion meetings and that it serves teams at more than 86% of Fortune 500 companies; those figures are company-reported.
Otter is positioning its transcription product as a source of searchable workplace knowledge, rather than only a way to generate meeting notes. It has introduced a meeting assistant, cross-app search and integrations with other AI tools. The company is also testing features that provide users with background before meetings and let them ask its AI assistant questions during a meeting.
The financing arrives in a crowded market for AI meeting products, where competitors include Fireflies.ai, Granola and Read AI. Turning captured conversations into follow-up actions and business workflows is a broader direction for the category, but Otter has not disclosed updated revenue or retention figures that would show how its usage is translating into durable growth. The investment gives it additional resources to pursue enterprise customers and expand internationally as it develops those products.
