Persona Raises $10 Million to Build a Personal AI Assistant and Wearable

TechCrunchOct 8, 2026

Persona, a personal AI assistant startup founded by Cal AI co-founder Zach Yadegari, raised $10 million and is developing a $179 wearable band.

Zach Yadegari, the 19-year-old co-founder of calorie-tracking app Cal AI, has launched personal assistant startup Persona and raised $10 million, TechCrunch reported on October 8, 2026. Vine Ventures led the funding round, with Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global also participating. Yadegari is working with another co-founder whose identity has not been announced.

Persona is testing a free assistant through iMessage, where Yadegari said it had attracted a few thousand beta users. The company is also developing a $179 wearable band, which is expected to become available in December. Yadegari said the device had already generated five figures in preorder revenue. An app is in development as well.

The band is designed to activate when its button is pressed or when the user flicks their wrist; it is not intended to continuously listen and record. Persona’s AI model and user data are handled in the company’s cloud rather than on the wearable. Yadegari said data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and users can delete it. He also described safeguards against phishing and prompt-injection attempts.

Persona’s planned assistant can handle tasks such as taking notes, booking travel, answering questions and emails, and ordering food or rides. For purchases, Yadegari said the agent cannot access credit-card details and requires user approval; payments are handled through external providers such as Stripe Link. The startup also plans to show sponsored products during shopping research. Yadegari said the assistant would make recommendations based on user preferences without knowing which items are sponsored.

The launch follows Cal AI’s sale to MyFitnessPal in March for an undisclosed amount. MyFitnessPal said Cal AI had generated more than $30 million in annual revenue in under two years. Yadegari continued working on Cal AI after the acquisition, then left the company in June to start Persona. For now, the assistant is available as a free iMessage beta while the company works toward its planned wearable release.

Industry Impact

Funding backs an assistant-first product strategy

Consumer AI, wearable technology, personal productivity

Overview

Persona’s $10 million raise funds a consumer assistant that combines a free iMessage beta with a planned $179 wearable. For founders and product leaders, the approach tests whether users will adopt an assistant across messaging and a dedicated device, while requiring trust around cloud-held personal data and purchase approvals. The few thousand beta users and five figures in preorder revenue offer early signals, not proof of durable demand. Longer term, sponsored shopping recommendations could add monetization, but their perceived neutrality may affect user trust.

Key Impact Points

The iMessage beta and planned wearable give Persona two interfaces for testing demand for personal AI assistance.

Cloud processing and user-approved purchases make data handling and control central product requirements.

Sponsored shopping results offer a potential revenue stream, while raising questions about recommendation transparency.

Opportunities

Personal task assistance and commerce

Consumer AI, wearable technology, digital commerce

Persona’s product points to an opportunity for assistants that help users complete everyday tasks across messaging and wearable interfaces, including note-taking, travel booking, email responses, and ordering food or rides. Businesses developing similar services can focus on clear user approvals for transactions, understandable data controls, and reliable task completion. Shopping research may also support sponsored product placements, provided users can trust recommendations. Persona’s planned $179 band and five figures in preorder revenue show early commercial interest, but the article does not establish sustained demand, recurring revenue, or the economics of the sponsorship model.
