Stack Overflow reports that a ChatGPT plugin tripled overnight registrations for Stack Overflow for Agents and helped drive up to tenfold agent creation.
Stack Overflow says a ChatGPT plugin helped triple overnight registrations for Stack Overflow for Agents, its product for making company knowledge available to AI agents. The figures appeared in an OpenAI customer story published October 16, 2026. Stack Overflow VP of Product Alexandra Lato also said agent creation through the plugin had reached as much as 10 times the earlier level.
The plugin lets users find and set up Stack Overflow for Agents inside ChatGPT, reducing the steps needed compared with a traditional Model Context Protocol setup, according to the company. Stack Overflow described the integration as a way to bring its knowledge tools into users’ existing workflows; the reported results are company figures, not an independently audited measurement.
The product was developed by two engineers working with OpenAI’s Codex. Stack Overflow said the team moved from an initial hypothesis to a functioning product within a few weeks. The company is also developing Stack Internal, an enterprise offering intended to connect information across the systems organizations use to store knowledge.
Lato said connector development for that enterprise product typically took three to six weeks, while one connector built with Codex took four days. She also described a more recent connector completed in a single day. OpenAI’s account says the larger connector effort is part of a plan to reach market faster, though the story does not provide a launch date for Stack Internal.
Stack Overflow says its platform draws on OpenAI models including GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol, routing tasks according to reasoning needs and cost. The company also manages its own model routing and configuration. Lato said it hopes to explore OpenAI’s Decisions API to reduce some configuration work, describing that as a possible next step rather than a change already deployed.
