Uber is extending ChatGPT Work from a 1,000-person pilot to its approximately 30,000 employees worldwide, without disclosing rollout costs.
Uber and OpenAI have expanded their partnership, bringing ChatGPT Work to Uber’s entire global workforce of about 30,000 employees. The company announced the expansion on October 22, 2026, after testing the enterprise AI tool with 1,000 workers earlier in the year.
The pilot included staff from finance, operations and product teams. Uber said 80% of those early users were not engineers. Employees applied the tool to tasks such as examining operational data for trends and recommendations, adapting training materials for different markets and languages, and creating interactive dashboards for their daily work.
Uber has not set a single required use for employees or disclosed what the broader deployment will cost. Instead, it plans to let teams explore applications and assess how staff use the tool, which workflows they develop and whether those workflows help them work more effectively. Uber Vice President of Engineering Sumanth Sukumar said those observations will inform how the company deploys AI across its business.
The company also described an earlier effort in which 30 AI engineers worked alongside teams across Uber for two weeks to automate parts of their jobs. That experience helped Uber identify opportunities where technical expertise could be paired with detailed knowledge of particular work, Sukumar said.
ChatGPT Work was introduced in July as an enterprise-focused AI agent for workplace tasks. Uber’s move marks a significant expansion from a limited trial, but the company has not announced specific productivity targets or a fixed timetable for evaluating results. OpenAI worked with Uber on integrating the tool, according to Uber. The deployment gives teams broad access while leaving the company to determine which uses prove valuable in practice.
