OpenAI plans to add a college application planner to ChatGPT for Teens and is introducing study tools and teen advisory programs.
OpenAI announced on October 7, 2026, that it plans to bring College Planner to ChatGPT for Teens, alongside new study features and youth advisory work. The planner is intended to help US students in grades 10–12 organize applications to four-year colleges; OpenAI says it expects to expand support to other countries and types of postsecondary education over time.
College Planner is designed to gather application requirements, deadlines, tasks and financial-aid steps for schools on a student’s list. Students will be able to track what remains, ask questions about requirements and review aid deadlines, scholarships and fee waivers. OpenAI said hundreds of thousands of US teens already use ChatGPT each week for college planning. The company described the new planner as forthcoming, without giving a launch date.
The announcement also covered early usage of ChatGPT for Teens. OpenAI reported that nearly 1.2 million teens used Learning Visualizations in one week, while more than 180,000 used Study Mode for step-by-step support. It said teens spend under 15 minutes per day on ChatGPT on average, and fewer than 2% spend more than three consecutive hours. In almost half of conversations with a break reminder, teens took a break or ended the conversation within five minutes.
For studying, teens can turn uploaded notes into flashcards or interactive quizzes. A continuous multi-photo feature lets students capture several pages and combine them into one PDF for upload; it is available on iOS, with Android support in development. Flashcard decks can be saved and revisited, and students can schedule practice sessions.
OpenAI is also supporting Boston Children’s Hospital’s Digital Wellness Lab and its Student Advisory Council for three years. For the 2026–27 school year, the program expects about 22 students across two tracks: roughly 12 students ages 14–18 focused on digital wellbeing, and 10 ages 16–20 working on AI and emerging technology. Separately, OpenAI said its support for College Advising Corps will help the nonprofit expand into new states and establish an AI fellowship for advisers.
