Amjad Masad said Replit stopped working with Anthropic for cost, partnership and performance reasons, while an unnamed source said the partnership remained active.
Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said on October 15, 2026, that the AI coding platform was no longer working with Anthropic. He cited cost, partnership considerations and performance, and said Replit currently viewed ChatGPT as the better option. The remarks came during an appearance at TechCrunch Disrupt.
The status is disputed. A person familiar with the relationship told TechCrunch the partnership was still in place. Replit’s public materials also showed recent use of Anthropic models: a late-September company post listed Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 in Replit Agent’s production environment, and a Replit employee had recently promoted Anthropic’s Opus 5.5. TechCrunch said it had asked Replit for clarification.
Masad said Replit uses an internal benchmark to assess performance, alongside a public benchmark. He claimed Replit’s Sol and Astra models consistently performed better at building “vibe-coded” applications from scratch. The article does not provide benchmark scores, so the comparison remains his account rather than a quantified result.
Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but that announcement had not established that its Anthropic relationship was ending. Replit offers a browser-based platform for building and deploying software, and its previous use of Claude models was part of that service.
Masad also described a shift in the company’s revenue mix: enterprise contracts rose from 2% of revenue last year to 15% this year, he said, while business-to-business revenue exceeded 50%. He did not disclose annual recurring revenue. The conflicting accounts leave the precise status of Replit’s Anthropic partnership unresolved in the article.
